SARASOTA, Florida: Australia's Alicia Molik has hit a forehand winner on the
first point after a two-hour delay to beat Mashona Washington in the Sarasota
Open.
Molik, serving at triple-match point when play was suspended because of rain,
advanced to a second-round match against Slovakia's Janette Husarova with her
6-4 6-4 win over Washington. Husarova beat third-seed Arantxa Sanchez-Vicario
in straight sets on Tuesday.
In an all-Russian match, Anastasia Myskina beat qualifier Alina Jidkova 7-6
(7-5) 6-2.
In a second-round match, Tatiana Panova, also of Russia, beat Gala Leon Garcia
of Spain 6-4, 6-2.
