Davenport Shows Her True Form
-Mike Donovan

Lindsay Davenport, the No.3 seed, shook out some more fitness rust to progress to the 3rd Round of Wimbledon today.

The 1999 champion, who returned after a three-month lay-off caused by a knee injury to win at Eastbourne last week, defeated Australian Alicia Molik 6-4 6-2 on Centre Court.

Davenport made an edgy start against Molik, who was making her debut at The Championships (well not exactly ‚tim) , before scrambling through the opening set. But the 25-year-old then started to find her true form to wrap up the match.

The American served well and her agile movement ensured the door was closed to any thought of a comeback by the debutante.

Davenport, looking to the sky as light rain began to fall, stepped up the pace and seized the first of three match points in her first meeting with Molik.
